Swan Lake Reimagined

We are currently developing a major new creation in collaboration with the Boulder Symphony: a reimagining of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake for contemporary dance and full symphony orchestra. This Swan Lake is not about escape or tragedy, but about presence, choice, and the wisdom of holding both light and dark.

Drawing from goddess mythology and contemporary ideas of feminine power, the work reframes the traditional narrative away from binaries of good versus evil and toward themes of agency, lived authority, and embodied knowing. Rather than retelling the story, the piece unfolds as a shared ritual — where movement and music exist in equal partnership.

The work honors the legacy of Swan Lake while allowing it to speak in a new voice: one rooted in complexity, transformation, and relevance for modern audiences.
